Buddhist New Year
New Year is celebrated on the first full moon day in January.
Vesak (Buddha Day)
Vesak (Buddha Day) is the celebration of Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death. It is celebrated on the first full moon day in May, except on leap years, then Vesak Day is celebrated in June.
Ulambana (Ancestor Day)
Ulambana is believed to be the day that the gates of hell are opened and where ghosts visit the world for the next fifteen days. It is celebrated on the first to fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. On this day, food offerings are made to relieve the suffering of ghosts. On the final day of Ulambana, people visit cemeteries and make offerings to their passed ancestors.
Avalokitesvara's Birthday
It is celebrated on the full moon day in March. It is a festival that celebrates the Bodhisattva that represents compassion.
